"Creating Your Space"

Title: "Creating your space"
Genre: Poetry
Status: Complete
Author's Note:  Have been tinkering with a series of poems I call "Tree Meditations".  I tend to come across very interesting trees, their character and stature typically inspiring some poem that I compose on the spot and do very few revisions to.  Eventually, I started taking photos to go with the poems, hoping the picture captured a small bit of the experiential moment of imbas I had with the tree.  I don't know that it truly translates, but it is what is is.  This  particular tree is located in the Amnicon Falls State Park, perched into the side of a steep hill where one would think it unlikely for a tree to grow and thrive.

Roots that flow free
grow with the life
of a river...
able to shift and change
with the flow of the soil
and the turn of the season.
Life is not always
about finding shelter...
...staying safe
doing what's expected...
It's about rising to the challenge
of creating your space
in the very spot
no one said you should stand.
